By Changing Nothing, Nothing Changes

Welcome to The Outlier Mindset!

Here is 1 visual, 1 insight, and 1 question for you to consider this week…

Comfort is Insanity

We become discontent with ourselves when we aren’t making progress, yet we repeat the same things over and over again, expecting different results. Our comfort is at fault. It makes us fantasize about our desires yet prevents us from achieving them.

Here are a few reasons why you don’t see new results:

  1. You are expecting change without action.

Change is like motion. It can only happen if a force acts on it. Most creators, entrepreneurs, and business owners have difficulty taking action.

Often, the majority of their time is spent planning instead of executing. While research and strategic tactics are essential, in the end, if you don’t put ideas and plans into motion, you won’t see any results.

  1. You are confusing comfort for rest.

It is often difficult to distinguish the need for rest from becoming comfortable. This often occurs when we are burnt out or struggling to find the right cadence for our energy and work. However, there is a clear distinction between these two responses.

When we rest, we recharge and reconnect with our most creative selves. When we fall into comfort, we find ourselves with little desire to return to an energy state and resent the idea of doing more.

It is crucial to find the balance between these two responses and rest when needed to help us continue to push out of our comfort zone.

  1. You wait for an external situation or emotion to shift.

You fail to change at a behavioral level. The problem with this is that you’re leaving the chance of change to something you can’t control.

The only person responsible for generating the results you desire is yourself. Instead of waiting for the environment around you to fall into place, plant the necessary seeds to enact change.

  1. You are not being truthful with yourself.

We all have blind spots, and we put a lot of energy into staying blind. To uncover our true roadblocks, we must ponder and reflect on what is truly in our way and how we can realistically approach moving forward. No matter the potential suffering, we must be honest with ourselves to make progress.

To change your situation, you have to change your actions.

The solution is to make small micro-changes that add to larger macro results over time. You can achieve the desired results by taking control of your behaviors, being honest with yourself about your needs, and making conscious efforts to enact change.

One Question

How long have you let your comfort prevent you from achieving the things you desire?
