1-1-1: The Meaning In Life

1 visual, 1 idea, and 1 question for this week.

Happy Thursday!

Here are 1 visual, 1 idea, and 1 question to explore this week.

VISUAL OF THE WEEK

THE BIG IDEA

Why bother living if everything eventually ends? Because endings create meaning.

There's a question we often wrestle with during moments of reflection: "If we all eventually die and forget everything, why bother doing anything at all?"

Imagine someone hands you a slice of cake. Would you refuse it, saying, "There's not enough cake to last forever, so what's the point of eating it at all?" Of course not. You’d savor every bite precisely because it’s limited. Scarcity doesn’t diminish pleasure—it heightens it.

Life operates in the same way. Because your time is finite, every moment, every choice, carries significance. The limited nature of your life is exactly what gives your actions purpose. If you had infinite time, nothing you did would truly matter; there would always be more time for something meaningful later.

But your time isn't infinite—it's precious and fleeting. So, perhaps the deeper question to ask yourself is: How will you spend the limited time you have?

You might find meaning by:

  • Clarifying your priorities: Reflect on what truly matters to you—relationships, personal growth, contribution, or creativity.

  • Eliminating distractions: Consider limiting activities that don't align with your core values and goals.

  • Engaging intentionally: Aim to be fully present in whatever you're doing. Savor experiences, relationships, and moments.

  • Reflecting regularly: Periodically assess whether your actions align with your values and adjust accordingly.

In short, eat the cake, savor every bite, and thoughtfully choose what you place on your plate. Your life's deepest meaning emerges precisely because you cannot do it all.

WEEKLY QUESTION

If you only had one year left, what would immediately rise to the top of your priorities—and why isn't it already there?
